Kainuu Wildlife

The Finnish people have a millennial history of living side by side with carnivores. These beautiful animals, that once were considered divine, eventually became hated and persecuted. Thanks to the nature conservation, the predator populations have now grown from being almost extinct to the most vibrant in a hundred years.

Watch a documentary ”Petojen elämää” (Life of Carnivores) on national Yle Areena service.
The 52 minutes long documentary was filmed by Kari Kemppainen from Kainuu.
Below on this page you’ll get a short glimpse into the predators’ life.
