Kainuu offers education for the needs of a changing working life in several fields of business. Many degree programs are at the forefront of their field nationally and internationally. For athletes, the Vuokatti-Ruka Sports Academy enables studying for a profession combined to active sports training. Kainuu also offers great opportunities for lifelong learning.
Senior High Schools
There are six senior high schools in Kainuu, which provide a good basis for postgraduate studies. Some of the high schools have a special emphasis that offers the opportunity to concentrate into one’s own strengths during studies. Communication is emphasized in Paltamo High School, visual arts and music in Kajaani High School and music in Kuhmo. The Vuokatti-Ruka Sports Academy in Sotkamo and Kajaani enables athletes to combine serious training and upper secondary education.
Comprehensive Schools
Finnish municipalities are responsible for arranging education for all 6 – 15 years old. All the eight municipalities in Kainuu provide basic education according to national guidelines in one or more comprehensive schools per municipality.
