Finnish Baseball in Sotkamo

Baseball is as Finnish as it gets! There is a very successful baseball team in Kainuu, with their home field on a beautiful spot in Sotkamo.

Finnish baseball (pesäpallo) is a fast-moving bat-and-ball sport that is often referred to as the national sport of Finland. Pesäpallo is a combination of traditional ball-batting team games and North American baseball, invented in the 1920s

The Finnish championship series is known as Superpesis. There is a very successful baseball team in Kainuu, called Sotkamon Jymy, that has won the national championships many times.  Their home field, Marjex Stadium, is located on a beautiful spot in Sotkamo. The stadium offers a beautiful view of Sapsojärvi and the Vuokatti hills behind it and offers a special atmosphere in itself.
