In Finland going out for social dancing is a traditional way to spend time, meet people and enjoy music. There are plenty of dancing houses and pavilions which are only open in the summer, and others which are only open in the winter. In some places dances are given throughout the year. Summer pavilions are often located in beautiful places in the countryside.

Even though this traditional dance culture has faded a bit during the years, you can still find many interesting spots to dance, also in Kainuu.  The most famous ones in Kainuu are Naapurinvaaran Huvikeskus in Sotkamo and Jormua Dance Pavilion in Kajaani.

Unfortunately, most of the dance pavilions don’t offer information online in English, You don’t have to speak Finnish to go to a dance in Finland, though. Just ask a local for tips, if you are interested to find the dance pavilion nearest to you!
