Kainuu Theaters

Kajaani City Theater is well-known for its ambitious and open-minded approach towards arts, society at large and manifestations of diversity in human experience with a special focus on issues relevant to the people in the region. The select plays are often Finnish novelties premiering in Kajaani.

Generaattori (in English, “the Generator”) is a house of performing arts situated in the centre of Kajaani. Generaattori is managed by G-Voima, and the space is shared by contemporary dance production group Routa Company, Kajaani Amateur Theater and Vaara-Collective.

ROUTA COMPANY is a professional dance production company in Kajaani, Finland. Their mission is to produce, develop and enable multi-faceted and personal dance art.

The Vaara collective is a free professional theater founded in 2014 and a performing arts collective with roots in Kajaani.

An awarded amateur theater in Suomussalmi in northern Kainuu, working in a professional manner. At summer time, the stage is set outdoors in a beautiful location in the middle of Kaunisniemi eskers. At wintertime, the audiences are invited to the cozy theater house in the centre of Suomussalmi.

The amateur theater of Sotkamo is known for its youthful, bold, fresh and professional work.

The summer theater sustained by a local association entertains audiences in Kuhmo, in eastern Kainuu.

There’s an atmospheric spot called Pentinpuro in Vuolijoki village of Kajaani, where the summer theater plays take place.

We wonder if the pessimists of Puolanka might eventually scrape together a play this year? Who knows, but one might follow their pages, if there’s nothing else to do.. To be honest, the Puolanka pessimists are kind of famous, not to mention that they’re hilarious!
